Zachary S. Bower

With a practice dedicated almost exclusively to multi-district class action litigation, Zachary Bower has played critical roles in some of the most consequential and high-profile class action cases in U.S. history. He focuses his efforts on consumer fraud, products liability, and antitrust matters. Zach practices out of the Miami, FL office of Carella Byrne that he helped to establish in 2019.

Since joining Carella Byrne, Zach has leveraged his advocacy skills on behalf of consumers and others in numerous class actions, some of which are among the largest ever brought. He has been a primary member of the team prosecuting In Re: Takata Airbags Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2599, which is considered the largest U.S. product defect case ever. Over the last several years, Zach has spent a majority of his time representing numerous cities and counties in prosecuting their claims against one of the nation’s largest pharmacies for its role in the opioid epidemic as part of In re National Prescription Opioid Litigation, MDL 2804.

Zachary was also a member of the litigation team prosecuting In Re: Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2672. The $17 billion settlement in that matter on behalf of more than 600,000 consumers is arguably the largest consumer class action settlement ever reached in the U.S.

On the antitrust side, Zachary played a lead role in prosecuting In re: Liquid Aluminum Sulfate Antitrust Litigation, MDL No 2687 (which involved allegations of collusion in the market for Water Treatment Chemicals and resulted in more than $100 million in settlements). He has also served on numerous lead and co-lead litigation teams in nationwide and class action lawsuits against automobile manufacturers, car rental companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

Prior to joining Carella Byrne, Zachary earned a dual Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from the University of Michigan and received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. After receiving his J.D., Zachary served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable K. Michael Moore in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Zach then joined one of the largest law firms in Florida, where his practice focused on complex commercial matters in federal court, as well as all aspects of class action litigation on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.

Zach’s representative experience at his previous firm includes:

  • Member of multiple trial teams, including the team that obtained a complete defense verdict following a two-week jury trial on claims asserted against a publicly traded company and five of its officers and directors for securities laws violations.
  • Obtained multimillion-dollar settlement on behalf of 33 Florida counties in an action to recover unpaid Tourist Development Taxes from various online travel companies.
  • Obtained complete dismissal with prejudice of claims alleging breach of convertible debentures on behalf of a multinational pharmaceutical company.
