John N. Bain attended Cornell University School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, New York University and New Jersey Institute of Technology, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1953.


He received a J.D. Degree in 1956 from Rutgers University School of Law, and was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and United State District Court of the District of New Jersey in 1956; the United States Patent and Trademark Office in 1957; the Bar of the United States Court of Appeals of the Third Circuit in 1964; the Bar of the United States Supreme Court in 1966; the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 1983; the United States Court of Appeals for Fifth Circuit, 1984; the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit 1984, (admitted previously to the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals); and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in 1987. He is also admitted to practice before numerous United States District Courts throughout the country.


Mr. Bain specializes in complex trial and appellate litigation, United States and international anti-trust litigation; United States and international intellectual property litigation including patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, licensing and unfair competition litigation including the protection of computer related financial, insurance and management systems; participation in both the domestic and international licensing of technology, mergers and acquisitions, environmental litigation including insurance coverage; and employee litigation relating to ownership and misappropriation of intellectual property.


He is a member of the Editorial Board of the New Jersey Lawyer, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of New Jersey Institute of Technology and formerly a Trustee of New Jersey Institute of Technology Alumni Association; a member of the American Bar Association, (Litigation, Intellectual Property Law, Anti-Trust Law and Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law Section); New Jersey State Bar Association (formerly Chairman of the Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition Section); Federal Bar Association of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut; American Association of Trial Lawyers; American Intellectual Property Law Association; the International Trademark Association; and the New Jersey Patent Law Association. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Center at Orange and a member and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Hospital Center at Orange.
