Zachary S. Bower


Zachary Bower focuses his practice exclusively on multi-district class action litigation, with a focus on consumer fraud, products liability and antitrust matters.  Since joining Carella Byrne, Mr. Bower has been a primary member of the team prosecuting In Re: Takata Airbags Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2599, which is considered the largest product defect case in United States history.  In this capacity, Mr. Bower has been involved in almost all aspects of the litigation, devoting significant time towards fact discovery and depositions.

Mr. Bower also was a member of the litigation team prosecuting In Re: Volkswagen “Clean Diesel” Marketing, Sales Practices and Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2672, representing more than 600,000 consumers who purchased or leased Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche vehicles that illegally discharged toxic pollutants. That settlement is valued at over $17 billion and represents arguably the largest consumer class action settlement in U.S. history.

He is also actively involved in a number of nationwide class actions currently pending throughout the country, including In re: Liquid Aluminum Sulfate Antitrust Litigation, MDL No 2687 (which involves allegations of collusion in the market for Water Treatment Chemicals) and In re: National Prescription Opiate Litigation, MDL No 2804.

Mr. Bower has also served on numerous lead and co-lead litigation teams in nationwide and class action lawsuits against automobile manufacturers, car rental companies and pharmaceutical companies since joining Carella Byrne.

Prior to joining Carella Byrne, Mr. Bower earned a duel Bachelor of Arts in Economics and History from the University of Michigan and received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law.  After receiving his J.D., Mr. Bower served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Chief Judge K. Michael Moore in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.  Mr. Bower then joined one of the largest law firms in Florida, where his practice focused on complex commercial matters in federal court, as well as all aspects of class action litigation on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants.   Mr. Bower’s representative experience at his prior firm includes the following:

  • Member of multiple trial teams, including team that obtained complete defense verdict following two week jury trial on claims asserted against publicly traded company and five of its officers and directors for securities laws violations;
  • Obtained multimillion dollar settlement on behalf of 33 Florida counties in an action to recover unpaid Tourist Development Taxes from various online travel companies;
  • Obtained complete dismissal with prejudice of claims alleging breach of convertible debentures on behalf multinational pharmaceutical company.

Mr. Bower is admitted to practice before the Florida State Bar and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
